Identifying the Target Area

The Foxbeach section of the Oakwood Beach neighborhood sits in a natural area referred to as a “Bluebelt”. As defined by the New York City’s Department of Environmental Protection, BlueBelts are ecologically rich and cost effective drainage systems that handle runoff precipitation that falls on our streets and sidewalks.

The 185 homes from the Oakwood Beach Buyouts incredulously sat on natural drainage corridors, also known as wetlands. Residents retreating from the Foxbeach section would make it easier for the drainage corridors to convey, store, and filter runoff precipitation or stormwater. However, local officials somehow saw fit to put soccer fields in parts of the returned to nature land.
